Bitcoin Steadies Near $80,865 as Weekend Slide Pauses, Altcoins Diverge Sharply
Bitcoin is flat at $80,864.60 after sliding under $80K over the weekend, while JCT rockets 133.2% and IRYS craters 60.7%.

Bitcoin is essentially flat today at $80,864.60, down just 0.1%, as the market pauses after sliding under $80,000 over the weekend. Ether is off 0.9% and Solana is down 0.4%, while a handful of smaller tokens are swinging hard in both directions.
Today's move
BTC trades at $80,864.60, down 0.1% on the day. ETH is down 0.9% and SOL is down 0.4%. None of that is a selloff: bitcoin broke below $80,000 over the weekend, and today's price action looks like consolidation rather than a fresh leg lower or a real bounce.
What's driving it

The weekend drop tracked reports of U.S. evacuations tied to Middle East tensions, which pushed bitcoin under $80,000 and set the tone heading into today. With the majors barely moving, the real action is in smaller tokens. JCT has more than doubled, up 133.2%, T has surged 43.2%, and APR is up 14.1%, with smaller gains in XMR (6.6%), ZEC (3.4%) and XRP (1.4%). On the other side, IRYS has cratered 60.7%, BIRB is down 48.4%, and IN, Q and AKE are each off double digits at -21.9%, -16.7% and -16.6%, with STRK down 6.4%. That spread points to idiosyncratic, token-specific moves rather than one broad market trend.
Away from price, bitcoin treasury stocks Strategy and Strive are reportedly weighing bitcoin accumulation against preferred-stock dividend obligations, a sign some leveraged treasury vehicles are feeling the recent drawdown. Separately, Xapo's CEO flagged that wealthy bitcoin holders are increasingly turning to loans and yield instead of selling, a habit shift that could matter for how much supply hits the market on dips like this one.
Signs of a turn
Not much yet. The bottom/accumulation indicator sits at 13 out of 100, a red reading with no bottom signal. That lines up with today's tape: flat is not the same as basing. The broader multi-week regime stays neutral, with a 14-day return of -3.4%, so today's pause doesn't flip the trend, it just interrupts it. If the modest gains in XMR, ZEC and XRP broaden into larger-cap names over the next few sessions, that would be a far more convincing signal than anything on screen today.
What I'm watching next

First: whether $80,000 holds on any retest, since that level just got broken over the weekend. Second: whether the sharp drops in IRYS, BIRB, IN, Q and AKE stay isolated or spread into other small caps, which would say more about risk appetite than the majors do right now. Third: the tokenized-stock pushback from firms like Wells Fargo, Cisco, Marvell, McDonald's, Microsoft and Google. None of them are tokens or altcoins, they are traditional companies declining to participate, and their resistance shapes how fast that narrative can move markets. Finally: the bottom indicator itself. A reading meaningfully above today's 13/100, paired with price actually holding or climbing, would be the first real sign this is turning rather than just pausing.
