Bitcoin Dips 1.0% as Binance Hack Fallout and Midterm Vote Weigh on Sentiment
Bitcoin slipped 1.0% to $77,185.90 as Binance's hack fallout and today's U.S. midterm vote kept traders cautious across crypto.

Bitcoin eased 1.0% to $77,185.90 over the past 24 hours, with Ether down 0.4% and Solana off 1.1%, as traders weigh fallout from Binance's record hack against today's U.S. midterm vote. It's a mild pullback, not a rout: the majors are holding close to flat while a handful of smaller tokens are swinging hard in both directions.
Today's move
Bitcoin is changing hands around $77,185.90, down 1.0% on the day. Ether is holding up a bit better at -0.4%, while Solana is the weakest of the three majors at -1.1%. None of these are dramatic moves on their own: this looks like a quiet grind lower rather than a flush.
The real volatility is in the smaller-cap names. IDOL surged 54.1% and ICNT jumped 39.0%, with HOT up 33.2%, IRYS up 12.5%, JCT up 7.1% and LIT up 5.2%. On the losing side, AKE cratered 28.6% and UAI dropped 26.2%, while BTW fell 13.8%, ESPORTS slid 12.3%, XPL lost 8.7% and ZEC slipped 5.9%. That spread between the day's best and worst performers shows how two-sided and speculative trading remains underneath the relatively calm majors.
What's driving it

Binance disclosed net outflows of $5.3 billion following its record hack, and while the exchange's CEO says recovery is underway, the headline is weighing on sentiment market-wide. Not everyone reads it as purely negative: strategist Tom Lee argued the Binance hack is actually bullish for Ethereum, and Ether's relative resilience today lines up with that call, helped along by the Aztec privacy network's rollout of a major security and speed upgrade on Ethereum.
Elsewhere, NEAR sank 7% after a proposal to cut the token's annual issuance passed, a reminder that token-specific governance news is still moving prices independent of the broader tape.
Risks
The bottom/accumulation indicator reads 29 out of 100 today, a red no-bottom-signal reading, so there is no constructive technical case for a turn yet. That lines up with the broader backdrop: the multi-week regime remains in caution mode, with a 14-day return of -7.0%. Today's 1.0% dip in Bitcoin doesn't change that picture on its own; it's a continuation of the same soft tape rather than a new leg down or an all-clear.
The Binance outflow figure is worth watching closely too: $5.3 billion leaving an exchange after a hack is a large number, and confidence in the recovery timeline matters more than any single day's price action.
What I'm watching next

The U.S. midterm vote is today, and coverage has flagged that Bitcoin is currently breaking a midterm election seasonality pattern that has held since 2014, so the next 24 to 48 hours of price action around the results are worth watching closely. Binance's recovery updates and further detail on the $5.3 billion in outflows are near-term catalysts too, alongside Moscow Exchange's planned December launch of Bitcoin, Ether and USDT trading as a longer-term one to track.
