Bitcoin Holds Near $80K as Fed Decision and Midterms Loom
BTC is flat near $80K and ETH is down slightly, but a 56.1% BULLA surge and a 34.1% Q selloff show the real action is in the alts today.

Bitcoin is sitting almost dead flat today, down 0.1% to $80,161.8 over the past 24 hours, while Ether slips 0.3% and Solana is the lone major in the green at +1.1%. After a weekend that saw BTC break below $80,000 on Iran-related jitters, the tape has gone quiet just ahead of this week's Fed decision and the midterms.
Today's move
The majors are barely moving. BTC is down 0.1% to $80,161.8, ETH is off 0.3%, and SOL is up 1.1%. That looks like a pause, not a bounce and not a fresh breakdown. Bitcoin dipped under $80,000 over the weekend as Iran-related fears weighed on risk assets, and today's flat tape reads more like consolidation than a new leg lower.
The real volatility is happening underneath the majors. BULLA has surged 56.1% in 24 hours, QNT has climbed 18.4%, and ENA is up 6.8%, UNI 4.9%, ONDO 4.3% and PUMP 3.9%. On the losing side, Q has cratered 34.1%, IRYS is down 29.3%, APR has dropped 23.8% and BTW is off 20.4%. Big double-digit swings in both directions on individual tokens, while BTC and ETH barely budge, is typical of a market digesting news rather than trending.
What's driving it

Three things are in focus this week: the Fed decision, the midterm elections, and the fallout from the weekend's Iran-related selloff that pushed BTC under $80,000. On the corporate side, Strategy, the bitcoin-treasury stock, skipped its usual bitcoin purchases and instead spent $205 million buying back shares of its STRC product, a sign that at least one large holder is prioritizing its own stock right now over adding to its BTC stack. Elsewhere, Aviva Investors launched a tokenized share class of its $29 billion Sterling fund on the XRP Ledger, a reminder that institutional tokenization is still moving forward even while spot prices sit still.
No bottom signal yet
Galaxy Research made the bull case this week, arguing bitcoin's bear market is over and that now is an attractive time to buy. The data in front of us does not confirm that: our bottom/accumulation indicator reads just 9 out of 100, a reading we flag as 'No Bottom Signal.' A separate $68 million bet is reportedly targeting a breakout to $90,000 after the midterms, which shows real money positioning for upside, but one large wager is not the same as broad accumulation. Today's flat tape and the weak indicator argue for caution about calling a bottom here, even as sharp, isolated gains in names like BULLA and QNT show pockets of real buying appetite.
What I'm watching next

- Whether BTC can reclaim and hold above $80,000 through the Fed decision and midterms, or slips back toward last weekend's lows.
- Whether the bottom indicator starts climbing off 9/100, or this stays a case of isolated token pumps rather than broad accumulation.
- How the broader neutral regime, down 2.4% over the past 14 days, resolves once this week's macro catalysts are behind us.
- Whether Strategy returns to regular bitcoin purchases or keeps prioritizing STRC buybacks, which would say something about how the largest corporate holder sees value right now.
