Bitcoin Steadies Near $77,900 While Small-Cap Alts Get Hammered
BTC is flat at $77,914 and ETH is up 0.9% today, but select small-cap tokens are down as much as 39.4% as the bottom signal stays red at 20/100.

Bitcoin is sitting almost dead flat at $77,914, down 0.2% over the last 24 hours, while Ether is up 0.9% and Solana is down 1.2%. It's a quiet session on the surface, but underneath it a handful of small-cap tokens are getting hit hard, some down more than a third today.
Today's move
The majors barely moved. Bitcoin is at $77,914, off 0.2% on the day. Ether is the outperformer, up 0.9%, while Solana is lagging slightly, down 1.2%. None of that is a strong statement in either direction, it reads more like a pause after a rough stretch: the broader regime is still neutral, with a 14-day return of -5.0%.
The real split today is in the smaller names. On the gainers side, the moves are mild: SOPH and BTW are both up 5.2%, 牛来 is up 3.0%, TRX is up 2.5%, ZEC is up 1.8%, and PAXG is up 1.2%. Nothing there is a breakout. On the losers side it's a different story: IDOL is down 39.4%, AKE is down 37.1%, UAI is down 30.9%, APR is down 25.4%, LSK is down 13.5%, and JCT is down 12.9%. Every one of those is a double-digit decline, and three are sitting in the 30% to 40% range. The gap between a max 5.2% gain and a 39.4% loss shows where the real risk is concentrated right now: thin, speculative small caps, not the majors.
What's driving it

The Binance hack is still working through the market. The FBI has opened a probe after the exchange saw mass outflows, and Binance has tapped roughly half of its SAFU insurance fund's bitcoin holdings while releasing proof of reserves to reassure users. Chainalysis also reported that the hackers have started swapping stolen Solana tokens for bitcoin, a detail worth watching given Solana's softness today.
On the demand side, Strategy, the bitcoin treasury company, resumed buying with a $66 million purchase and spent triple its usual weekly outlay on buybacks of its STRC preferred stock. That's a stock-market signal, not a crypto one, but it points to steady institutional appetite even with prices stuck in a range. Elsewhere, tokenization firm tZERO said it plans to go public through a $350 million SPAC, and FATF put crypto hubs under fresh scrutiny in its latest money-laundering review. Neither moves price today, but both shape the backdrop.
Signs of a turn
There's no confirmed bottom here. boostio's accumulation indicator reads 20 out of 100 right now, still a red, no-bottom-signal reading, and that hasn't changed just because bitcoin held flat instead of falling further. What you can say is that today didn't add to the damage: bitcoin stopped sliding and Ether printed a genuine green day. That's a small stabilization, not a reversal, and the double-digit drawdowns in small caps are a reminder that risk appetite is still fragile underneath the majors.
What I'm watching next

- Whether bitcoin can hold $77,914 or the small-cap weakness spreads into the majors.
- How the Binance hack investigation and SAFU drawdown develop, and whether more stolen funds move.
- Whether Strategy's buying pace continues or today's purchase was a one-off.
- Any move in the accumulation indicator off its current 20/100 red reading.
- A reported bump in bitcoin's volatility curve at medium-dated maturities, a sign options traders are pricing extra uncertainty into a date that hasn't arrived yet.
