Bitcoin Slips to $81,126 as Altcoins Diverge, Bottom Signal Stays Weak
Bitcoin eased 0.7% to $81,126 while altcoins split hard and the bottom indicator stayed stuck at a weak 8/100.

Bitcoin eased 0.7% to $81,126 over the past 24 hours, with Ether down 1.1% and Solana off 1.2%, as crypto majors extend a quiet, low-drama pullback rather than showing any real bounce.
Today's move
The last 24 hours were red across the board but not violent: BTC -0.7% to $81,126, ETH -1.1%, SOL -1.2%. That keeps the multi-week regime at neutral, with the 14-day return at -1.3%, so today's dip reads as a continuation of recent softness, not a sharp new leg down.
Underneath the majors, smaller tokens are doing the real moving:
- IRYS surged 108.9%, more than doubling
- BTR jumped 41.1%
- BIRB climbed 37.6%
- AKE added a double-digit 16.1%
- PEPE and DASH posted smaller single-digit gains of 9.3% and 5.8%
On the losing side:
- ALT dropped 11.0% and LIT fell 10.0%, both double-digit losses
- MAGMA, QNT, JCT and STRK slid in the high single digits: -8.0%, -7.7%, -7.5% and -7.3%
What's driving it

There's no single crypto-specific catalyst behind today's softness. Bitcoin is consolidating after a 3% loss last week, a pullback tangled up with broader stock-market weakness tied to AI-related fears rather than anything unique to crypto. For context, bitcoin's volatility has calmed enough recently to rival Nvidia's, a sign the asset is behaving less erratically even as prices drift lower.
Ether's slightly sharper 1.1% decline lines up with its own headline risk: developers just delayed the Glamsterdam testnet fork after turning up gas-related security flaws, a reminder that near-term technical uncertainty is weighing on ETH specifically.
Risks
The bottom/accumulation indicator reads just 8 out of 100 today, a No Bottom Signal print. That's a flag that buyers have not stepped in with enough force to register as accumulation, so today's dip should be read as continued softness, not a confirmed low.
The spread of movers matters too: double-digit declines in ALT and LIT alongside a cluster of high-single-digit drops in MAGMA, QNT, JCT and STRK suggest risk appetite is thinning out in parts of the altcoin market even as a handful of small-cap names like IRYS and BTR post outsized gains. Big pops in a few names while others bleed is typical of a market without clear direction.
On the news side, enforcement and legal overhang stay in the background: New York's attorney general is seeking $1.37 billion from the founders of NovaTech over an alleged Ponzi scheme, and Interpol says it recovered $105 million in an African cybercrime sweep that shut down illegal crypto mining operations. Neither is a direct price driver today, but both are reminders that regulatory and enforcement risk has not gone away.
What I'm watching next

First, whether the bottom indicator starts climbing off 8. A reading this low with price still drifting down is worth tracking day to day for any sign buyers are returning. Second, whether today's AI-driven stock jitters bleed further into crypto or stay contained. Third, whether the split between surging small-caps like IRYS and a broader bleed in names like ALT and LIT resolves into a clearer trend, or just stays noisy chop within the neutral regime.
